French Terry

| What is french terry?

French terry is a knit fabric similar to jersey, with loops on one side and soft piles of yarn on the other. This knit results in a soft, plush texture you’ll recognize from your comfiest sweatshirts and other kinds of loungewear. French terry is midweight—lighter than cold-weather sweatpants but heavier than your typical tee. It’s cozy, moisture-wicking, absorbent, and keeps you cool.

When should I wear french terry?

French terry is a versatile fabric that you’ll find in casual clothing like sweatpants, hoodies, pullovers, and shorts. French terry clothes are great to lounge in, or wear over your workout clothes if you’re heading to the gym.

French Terry vs Terry Cloth

French terry differs from the terry cloth that you recognize from your towels and robes. French terry is a smoother, softer fabric, though both French terry and terry cloth feature a similar soft pile. Terry cloth is also more absorbent than French terry, making it the perfect fabric to use when toweling dry.

| Maintaining french terry

French terry is a low-maintenance fabric that doesn’t wrinkle easily or need to be dry cleaned. French terry is machine washable, and if your French terry clothing is 100% cotton, they’ll release odors more easily in the wash, meaning your clothes won’t smell even after they come out of the dryer, like synthetics can.

Does french terry wrinkle?

French terry does not wrinkle easily because it’s a knit fabric with natural stretch.

Is french terry easy to clean?

French terry clothing is easy to care for and does not need to be dry-cleaned. For best results, wash in cold water and tumble dry on low.
